Is my baby a boy or a girl? This is one of the first questions moms-to-be wonder. It usually comes right after “am I pregnant?” I know that with both of my pregnancies, I had a strong feeling about the gender. If I could have chosen the order of my babies I would have had a boy first and then a girl. You know, so big brother could protect little sister and I would get the best of both worlds. But when my husband and I first found out I was pregnant, I just knew it was a girl. I got used to the idea long before the ultrasound, which just confirmed my gut feeling. Since all I’ve known for the last 3 years is all things girl, this time I thought it would be neat to have another girl. Sisters sounded fun. But this time, I felt early on that this baby was a boy. I got used to the idea and the ultrasound confirmed, once again, that my intuition was working…at least a little bit. If I told you how I THOUGHT my daughter would look vs. how she looks in real life, well, that’s pretty laughable 🙂 So, when my friends Courtney and Lane told us they were going to wait to find out the gender of their baby, but they both felt like it was a boy, I couldn’t wait to see if they were right. I really admire couples who do this. I know it used to be that way for everyone, but with current technology it is so hard to be patient when you can find out at 18-20 weeks. I’ve even heard of a blood test that will tell moms around 11-12 weeks with a very high accuracy. So, I secretly admired Courtney when she smiled as I looked around her very boyish nursery after we finished up her (amazingly gorgeous) maternity session and wondered aloud: what if it’s a girl? You know what her reply was? “Well, I figure she’ll be a big tomboy.” That’s pretty cute stuff right there. Alas, this momma had her baby and what do you know, it was a boy. She was right. And he is just precious. All it took was a little bit of milk and he was ready to let me do whatever I wanted for his newborn session. Here are a few of my favorites of this sweet, squishy little guy:
