True Colors : A Newborn Workshop

I am so excited to announce that June Star Photography and Jessica Mitchell Photography will be teaming up this April for a fun 2 day workshop!

I first met Jessica about 4 years ago.  At the time, we were both working on learning more about newborn photography: safety, posing, how to run a business, etc.  Jessica, the oldest of 9, took to this shy only child immediately, pulling me under her wing and pushing me (literally- she pushed me) to get the shots.  We are a true case of opposites attract, and 4 years later, we are the best of friends.  We have both grown so much over the time we’ve known each other and finally decided it was time to bring our two styles together for one fabulous newborn workshop.

Jessica’s style is fun and fearless, just like her personality.  Her use of color is rare in this industry- pairing up bold bright colors and patterns is her specialty. At the workshop, Jessica is going to take over Day 1 posing two babies and showing you exactly how she pairs all her layers and fabrics together to make the perfect combination piece that parents love to see from her.  We will then go outdoors (weather permitting) for a beautiful maternity session.

As for me,  I’m a little more neutral 🙂  I opt for soft colors, tone on tone combinations, and a clean earthy vibe. As we move to Day 2, I will take over posing two babies and showing you how I create the timeless art my clients have come to know and love.

You will get the best of both worlds in the Newborn Photography Industry with this workshop.  Jessica and I do MANY things completely differently.  We shoot differently, we use different light modifiers, we pose to different sides of the beanbag, we pose differently, our styles are completely different and we edit differently.  You can apply everything we teach you about our different styles and make it your own unique look.  We will be going over:

Newborn Safety

Posing

Session Preparation

Color Combinations

Both Editing workflows

Working with Clients

Marketing Workflow

Studio Lighting

Proper Exposure

Camera Settings

You will need to have a general knowledge of your Camera. We will be more than happy to assist in Camera Settings, but all Camera’s are different. So please be sure to study up on your device before attending.

Suggested Equipment to bring:

Camera

35mm or 50mm Lens

Camera Manual

Notepad for Note taking

Laptop {not required, but you are more than welcome to bring so you can edit along with us}

Tentative Schedule:  Saturday, the 23rd, will be packed full!  We will start in the morning with a meet and greet followed by setup, camera settings, lights, etc.  Jessica will then take over posing baby #1 and then we will break for lunch.  We will start back up with baby # 2 right after lunch and then break for discussion in the late afternoon.  Weather permitting, we’ll then head out for a beautiful sunset maternity session.

We’ll start bright and early again Sunday morning with setup, and then I will take over posing our first baby of the day.  We’ll break for lunch after baby #1, then get right back to it with baby #2.  We will then go over our individual editing workflows and end the day with questions & answers.
